In Mauritius a series of programmes was organized with the aim of attracting the Mauritian people to take to the chanting of the maha-mantra with earnestness. Sundara Lala prabhu was the main coordinator. He was assisted by Kunjabihari prabhu and Acarya Ratna prabhu as well as the Harinam/Food For Life team. The Food For Life team served tirelessly to prepare prasadam for each programme.
The first day opened with a Japathon Pledge at Hare Krishna Land, Phoenix, where devotees took individual vows to increase their chanting during the festival. The following day devotees gathered at 2.30am to start chanting 64 rounds of japa. Thereafter there were many congregational programmes: padayatras, harinams, a college programme, a sanksrit presentation, a programme for the senior citizens at the Rose-Belle Centre, a Carnaval from Quatres Bornes to Rose-Hill, an Interfaith dialogue at the Municipality of Quatres Bornes where Sufis and devotees chanting the Holy Names in unison and Hare Krishna concerts where the Mauritian youth band, The Vaikuntha Vibes, attracted crowds.
All the programmes were well attended and some were also attended by dignitaries. It was an enlivening fortnight indeed.
